I found this article recently and, believe it or not, cannot decide how I feel about this story. My feelings are mixed and I've played the Devil's Advocate for both sides on the issue; surprisingly, I am still a fence-rider right in the middle. So... I thought it might be interesting and helpful to hear your perspective. It's a tough quagmire of a situation... any takers?

All right, I'll bite...
I can't say I'm strongly for or against, as far as the broader social and ethical issues are concerned, but as for this individual situation, I think the parents did the right thing. Ashley isn't being harmed, and quite frankly, if she's never going to go mentally beyond childhood, she's not going to know what she's missing. I can definitely see how having a smaller "child" makes her easier to care for and interact with, and the critics who say it's not in her best interest don't seem to be considering her environment, only her "normal development", which is a moot concept for this girl anyway. She'll never be normal. She looks happy and loved, and really, what more can any of us ask for?
